Transition programme qualifications. University Entrance with a UC Transition Qualification UC has three transitionary qualifications that you can study towards to gain University Entrance to undergraduate qualifications: Certificate in University Preparation If you are a New Zealand student, University preparation programmes are for you. They focus on analytical skills and communication required to succeed at university.
Foundation Studies Certificate If you are an International Student whose first language is not English, foundation studies will be a better fit.
Foundation studies have a dual emphasis on university study skills and academic English. University Transfer Programme If you are an International Student whose first language is not English, and you want to go on to study towards a commerce, engineering or science degree, a UCIC University Transfer Programme may be for you. Minimum scores for University Entrance In most cases, successfully completing a preparatory qualification is considered to be equivalent to gaining University Entrance.
Discretionary Entrance. Achieved the literacy and numeracy standards for University Entrance. A supporting letter from your Principal is required. International Baccalaureate Minimum International Baccalaureate score of 24 points but you must not have been awarded the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
If you are completing, or have completed catch-up credits to support your application, please contact us. If your application is unsuccessful for the upcoming semester, we encourage you to make a new application for a future semester, and to consider doing catch up credits to meet University Entrance and improve your rank score to support your further applications.

These are the undergraduate programme admission requirements for school leavers who have achieved University Entrance. Additional requirements apply and where noted against specific programmes. Please visit the specific programme page for full details. If you achieve the University Entrance standard, but your rank score is not high enough to guarantee selection, your application will be considered, provided places remain available.
Alternative options are available if you do not meet programme entry requirements. For conjoint programmes, applicants must achieve the greater of the two rank scores for their selected programmes and must meet the entry requirements for both programmes.
It's advisable that you also apply for both programmes separately. Not all degree programmes have conjoint options. Equity applicants with rank scores of or below and all other applicants with rank scores of or below may be assessed on a case-by-case basis and may be referred to an appropriate foundation programme.
Subject to places being available in the programme; NCEA students with a lower rank score may be accepted. Students who have achieved the majority Year 13 external modules in both Calculus and Physics may also be considered.
For Cambridge International students, AS Mathematics and Physics may be accepted based on the level of grade achieved. The Faculty of Engineering will consider admission for students who missed out on admission to BE Hons who are able to demonstrate sufficient ability in Engineering-related and approved study in the Bachelor of Science BSc programme.
